Why Does it Matter? A very important part of evaluating the best construction software solution for the needs of your business is evaluating the software vendor, not just the product. Imagine this: you’ve selected your software, made the purchase, had it installed on all of your computers, and trained your staff. It is everything you wanted it to be, and more. You couldn’t be happier. And then it happens – some little glitch that renders your miracle software useless. Okay, no problem, right? You’ll call the vendor, and they’ll make it right. If you’ve done your homework and made sure that your vendor is as wonderful as the product they sold you, you’ll be back up and running in no time at all. But if you haven’t, this nightmare may only be the opening sequence of your very own software horror. So what do you need to do to make sure that you’ve selected not only the right construction accounting software, but the best vendor, too? There are a number of things you can do to make sure you’ve got all the information you need to make a good solid decision. How do I start? Starting on the product website, take a look at how many versions of the product they’ve released, and what improvements they’ve made. You should also check to see what level of support they offer for previous versions. This will give you a fair idea of how you’ll be treated if you decide against the next software upgrade they want to sell you. Next, put the names of the vendor and the software into a couple of different internet search engines and skim through the links they bring up. Keep an eye open for any articles or web pages that indicate lawsuits that the company is involved in, or for recent changes in the ownership of the company. Either of these could indicate instability in the vendor that could leave you stranded when you need future support for their product. If you find a recent change in ownership, you should check out the product support history of the new company. It is also worth it to check with various constructon software reviews. Another source of information is other users of the construction software you are evaluating. Talk to the other construction industry professionals you know. Online forums are a good place to meet other construction executives who use the construction management software you are considering. The product website may have a forum, and many online technology communities have forums as well. In short, spending as much time researching the vendor as you do researching the software will serve you well over the life of the product. Good support will prove to be equally as valuable as a good product.

Personal trainers see it all the time. John Brown, a new client, starts an exercise regimen, follows it closely for a couple of weeks, and then quits. Why did he quit? Because he is still the same John Brown he’s always been, in most ways. He still lives an unhealthy lifestyle. He still drinks soft drinks all day long. He still skips breakfast and eats a double cheeseburger for lunch. Exercise made him healthier, but it didn’t solve everything. It wasn’t a miracle cure. It was a piece of the bigger puzzle. Most construction project software is much the same. It isn’t the miracle cure for your construction business. If your employees are sloppy about recordkeeping, new construction software isn’t going to magically ensure that every 2×4 is accounted for, and that all of your employees’ timesheets will suddenly be completed on time. However, if it is utilized to its fullest potential, it will do things for your business like increasing the accuracy of your estimates, and making the tracking of your projects much more seamless. If John Brown had considered his exercise routine as a great building block in his quest to be healthy, he’d likely have had better results. If he would begin to eat better and then add the exercise, he would have seen more improvement. Construction Software is going to be a great foundation for your business. It will give your employees the tools they need to ensure that things run smoothly , to streamline processes, increase accuracy and save time. Just don’t expect it to be your miracle cure. Remember that it’s a piece of your bigger success puzzle. There are many places to view construction software reviews that can help you determine which package is the best for your needs.

You thought that once you decided that your company was going to use construction accounting software to track inventory, project status and employee hours, things would be simple from there on out, right? Wrong. You’ve decided to purchase new software, but now you still have to decide WHICH software to purchase. For some companies, this is a long decision process. Why does it take so long? There are several reasons. Sometimes every option is a good fit and it is simply hard to decide. More often, though, it is a result of unconsciously dragging your feet in the decision making process. If the person making the decision on which construction project management software to implement isn’t entirely committed to the project, they aren’t going to be very motivated to make a decision quickly. Sometimes the issue is that the decision-maker lacks confidence in all of the products, and isn’t personally invested in getting the software running in your business. Occasionally the problem is a simple one: a fear of failure. Any of these issues can result in unintentional stalling in the selection of the construction estimating software. Make sure that your entire decision-making team has all the information that they need. Ensure that your selection committee is eager and enthusiastic about the construction accounting software. Both of these simple actions will help avoid a long decision process in selecting the right construction project software for your needs. |
